The class where your flying journey begins! If you have never done flying trapeze before or have made less than 5 different catches this is the class for you!
Be it a once in a lifetime experience or even the beginning of your flying trapeze story! Either way, we guarantee you will have fun with our amazing team. You’ll be welcomed onto site by one of our instructors who will ensure you have completed the waiver and are suitably prepared for the class ahead. If you can arrive already prepared, even better as it’ll result in more time for the fun part - flying!
Following an explanation of the key site and class safety rules, we will move onto “Ground School”. This section of the class ensures you are physically and technically prepared before moving onto the apparatus, and includes a thorough ground based warm up, a take-off talk and a demonstration of the trick you will be learning. Then it’s time for the real challenge to begin!
Usually you will get three rounds of practising the trick and the instructors will then assess if you are ready to attempt taking your trick across to a catcher in the fourth round. If you are, fantastic! If not, you’ll simply get another turn to hone your skills instead. We would encourage any students who don’t make the catch to book into another class and try again: sometimes a little more time to refine the skill and gain consistency is all it takes. We can also give you additional ground drills to practise both in class and at home to help you achieve this. Either way, we’re confident you will love the exhilaration of flying through the air and finish the class on a high, with an incredible experience to share with friends and family. If you really get the bug, you’ll probably be booking your next class before you’ve even left!
So you couldn’t stay away; excellent! Now that you’ve had your first taste of flying trapeze, we can start to build on what you learnt in your first class.
To attend this class, you must have made 5 different catches!!
Returning Flyers are smaller and generally move a little faster which means more turns on the trapeze! In this class, you will progress to learn a variety of two position tricks, the order of which will depend upon your background and our instructors’ experience of working with you. You will work towards making catches from these tricks and improving your consistency and confidence. We will focus on the importance of take-off technique and teach you a one handed take-off once ready. After several classes, we will introduce the swing which is the most important fundamental skill that all more advanced tricks are developed from and time will be dedicated to this in each class. In time, this will allow you to learn backend tricks, a turnaround swing and a half turn.
As a returning flyer also you will not be repeating Ground School as you have already completed that resulting in extra time to work on a new trick or technical area instead!
By this stage, you well and truly have the trapeze bug and will find yourself daydreaming about flying trapeze pretty much wherever you are; home, work, you name it!
To fly in this class you must be able to:
· 1) Swing safely out of safety lines.
· 2) Work your own platform
The returning flyer classes will help your prepare for this level and the instructors will ensure you are competent across all essential areas before signing you off to attend this class. For the swing, this includes a proficient unassisted take off, being able to swing independently without an instructor calling the timing and land safely with consistently in the net.
We are big believers in the potential for flying trapeze to improve students mental health as well as their physical health. We offer twice-per-week community classes which are free of charge and open to groups of adults or children who would benefit from the mental and physical effects of trapeze, and who otherwise would not be in the position to experience this activity.
we have been able to offer classes to vulnerable groups with the partnership of organisations such as Yellow Submarine and The Porch.
Our staff have all experienced first-hand the mental health benefits of flying trapeze and the positive impact this has had in their lives. The feedback we have had from our community classes, as well as our regular flyers, has only strengthened our belief in the beneficial effects trapeze has on the mind and body. We are immensely proud to be able to offer these classes so if you think your community or organisation would benefit from this programme please email info@highflytrapeze.com for more details and to discuss further.
